All good money making ventures come to an end. Coming from another former millionaire.

Anet at first saw the Lornars runs, tried to snub them by making it much more difficult. Which forced business to me as the newb runners were failing left and right.

Heavy profits for my group.

As of late, the run is much, much easier and now you see a flood of 3k newbs polluting beacons. Only a matter of time before they run for even more pathetic amounts.

I think this is counter-intuitive of Anet. The whole point of GW was that you were to profit from your talents, and not via expending massive amounts of time for grinding. Lornars _was_ a great way to profit from talent.

Oh well. Theres always Ice Dome, right?

I agree that it really depends on the area. I wasn't implying that all farming is easier solo. For instance - I've been working on a build for solo farming the Dragon's Lair. So far my best build will allow me to kill all the Enchanted Swords and Sages without any problems. But the first dragon heals and fights on an equal par with me. So we end up fighting/healing forever. I'm fairly certain that the rest (except for Glint) will be more managable than that first dragon.
But, if I ever perfect that build it'll be juicy source to farm.

It seems that everyone is asking for good places to farm. So, here are a few places that I go solo. And I have no problem going solo even though I am a pure ranger, so anyone can. Skills are the key!

Gates of Kryta - Enter the mission and go to the Drake Beach.
Scoundrel Rise - Easy kills here, you can get a lot of crafting materials.
Sanctum Cay - Again more Drakes, and Executioners (drop good armor).
The Scar - Good for collector materials like jade mandibles and dune jaws.
Diviners' Ascent - My favorite place, sand drakes (easy kills) drop good stuff.
Elona Reach - Enter mission and get the Minotaurs for thier horns.
FoW / UW - Almost goes without saying, teamwork is the key here.

There are a few places I go...so check em out.

"Oh man... don't get it, its too much of a time sink to get anything good nowadays" thats why they will not keep nerfing, if they are smart.

As for Xue Yi Liang's statement on things dropping crappy items recently, i have been having that issue also, even though i have just recently started major farming in several areas. Crappy items like orr emblems or scalps, low end whites in a high-end area; which is so blatently obvious that the devs nerfed due to seeing a "shiverpeak" low end item in a higher "kryta' area. It just seems like they are taking the fun out of the game for people who like to be suppliers for thier guild.

We'll see what happens next... Just my two cents.

Xue Yi Liang, you've made an excellent post. You gave us your method, you tried to inspire us to think (successfully!), and you provided support to the discouraged with a near-infinite amount of patience. Kudos!

If you're a monk you can farm undead.
If you're a warrior you can go after the big beasts.
If you're a necromancer, you can farm anything that leaves a body behind.

Just stay away from large groups of Mesmers and anything that uses a powerful AoE attack. Particularly Sand Giants. Packs of four + knockdown + AoE = bad business for any job anyway.

Prior to this point I'd been saving my Expert kits for purple/yellow drops and using standard kits on everything else without really thinking about it. An Expert kit will more often than not net you a combined value of more than four times what you'd get with a standard kit anyway.

Thank you,

-sam

P.S. Particularly on higher-level weapons and armor and stuff (steel ingots in particular) and anything with runes in it. Even minor runes of whatever type sell for at least 30-40 gold, so if you expert salvage out 25 useless runes, you made 875, more than twice the value of the Expert kit. Even if you don't get a single drop of extra materials, you'll still profit -- it'll just be smaller, and I'm willing to take a risk like that for the occasional Steel Ingot. Particularly when it's been proven to work so well!

Not to mention the insane amount of money people will pay for certain gold drops, along with the loose cash you pick up during these runs. The loose cash alone will pay for your expert kit if you farm in an advanced-enough area.

Yeah but I heard that there was a armor called Fissure Armor or something dumb like that, I also heard that it looked like crap. Also that it was hard to get but that it would make the fissure enemies do a little less damage to you from physical attacks.

About the $. I think that they should, since they keep nerfing good spots to get drops, that they should make it so that monsters drop more gold. Like at way through the game near Augury Rock, sometimes 100g will drop. It doesn't often drop but it will sometimes. Well, if it drops, and your party is full with 6 people, you're not gonna get alot, so it makes it harder to actually get gold because of that. I don't mind that as long as I'm with other actual people, not henchmen. But when henchmen are with me and take the gold, they can't use it since they're A.I. so whats the point of giving it to them. It just deleats what gold they get, they should at least make it so that how much gold the Henchmen get, they could hold on to whatever total amount of gold they got and like buy new gear and stuff... armor I mean. It would be aswome if the henchmen could buy new gear depending on how much gold they get from the sharing and how much you take them along with you. But also the armor would cost double for them, so that it makes it a little harder for them to get the gold. But it would definently help if they could do that, make some of the bosses and other enemies easier. Like at Thirsty River, there is absoutly no way to beat the mission with Henchmen. Because they are to stupid to know to move away or to resurect a real playing person in the middle of battle. Basically if you die, then its over, and that goes for anywhere. But if they could "Buy" new armor then that would be easier for them to defeat an enemy then able to resurect you without having to start over. The first time I was doing the Thirsty River mission, I took along henchmen because I wanted to see if I could do it. I made it to the last part where you have to face 3 priests and enemy hoards. Of course it was very close with the 2 priests in the challenge before that. I died when there was one more enemy left, stupid healer didn't wana heal, but the enemy was almost dead because of me, so the healer and the fighter guy, Stephen, killed the enemy because it was so low on health. So I was lucky there, they ressurected me. But at the next and final challange, I had beaten the priest on the left and also his group of enemies. Then I went to the other priest who had the ranger boss infront of him, and my enchanter and cultist and healer and mage all stayed outside to attack from far. But then some of the guys from the other priest came close by on one of their patrols and wouldn't have seen the casters that were there, but then the stupid healer just had to attack one of them. So then they came over, and since they were to hard for the A.I. the healer died. Then It was all over from there. I tried to get out to help the healer, but there were alot of guys who I had skipped to get to the priest and kill him, they were blocking the entryway so that I couldn't get out. So then they killed the healer, the mage, the enchanter, and the cultist. Me and the warrior henchmen were the only ones left. So it was 2 vs like 13 enemies, with the boss as one of them. The fighter henchie died almost instantly, and because I can't cast healing spells very quickly from my ranger part of me, I died. I had to start it all over again. It really made me mad.
It would be a lot more realistic if the henchmen would buy better armor depending on how much gold they make off of YOU. So that different people would have different henchmen with different armor levels. I know that they have the henchmen like that because they want to encourage us to fight with actual other people, but sometimes its fun just to get away from all the talking in the towns and all the annoying people.

Or maybe they should have it like that only if you're by yourself, like just you and henchmen I mean. The armor would cost like double for the henchmen that it would for you. So you would have to be with henchmen ALOT in order for them to get better armor as they go on. And maybe when you get to a different town, one where the henchmen are a higher level, if they choose to get bad armor, then they would have to keep that until they could get better. So they might start with something worse than what they would originally have had. And it would determine what kind of armor they would get depending on how much gold each henchie made in a week or something. So if you use them a little bit so that they get enough gold to buy fairly ok armor, then wait a week without useing them, then they would buy that armor instead of saving for better. It would still make it hard then for the henchmen to be execelent without using them much. Then later on much more gold should drop so that if they are still using crappy 20 armor gear, then they would get more gold so that they could get something better to live with.

Well, anyway, I think that it would be cool if the henchmen could do that and would also ressurect you even if there are enemies attacking the healer because people actually do that when fighting together. Also they wouldn't attack unless you choose to attack them or something. At that place, I forget its name and the mission, there are these guardians for the druid and you're not supposed to kill them and let the druid thing get by. Well the henchmen just decided, "Hey, lets fail this for this person just to get a kick out of it and die" So they attacked the guardians and killed them and I failed.
They need to make a update that makes the henchmen much better.

Ok, I know that this is alot, but if you actually took the time to read it... thanks.

I actually liked how in Diablo 2 you could give some items/armor to your henchmen. It would be cool if you can buy upgrades for you hench in GuildWars and for those people who like to use them, they can invest to make some super powerful hench.

I usually solo farm with my Ele, switching between /Mo and /Me depending on the area.

But certain spots work best with a small group.
I regularly farm the sand giants with a team of 3 as that seems to be the most efficient party for doing it.
Our team is:
1 Warrior to tank and aggro all the giants and get them in a cluster
1 Monk to keep the tank alive
1 Ele to nuke them once they are clustered. I play the ele
I basically drop 2 back to back meteor showers and a firestorm and if they are still alive (rare) a Searing Heat. Takes about 30-45 seconds to dispatch a large group of giants and move on to the next.

If any of us went alone it would take forever--I couldn't do it as a E due to the knockdown. I suspect a monk would have the same problem. And a W can't really tank more than 2 at a time and hope to live from what I've seen. And if he could...it would probably be slower and less efficient than going with a team.

So, yes, sometimes it is best to solo and others it is best to go with a team.

This is just farming materials. It's ok...., but farming items is longer, but also better. I made 85K, today alone...of like 4 items.

Part of his point was that he doesn't like shouting around in Lion's Arch or scamming people.

Plus another positive offshoot of material farming is that you have plenty of mats for your next armor set / FoW set / other characters' armor sets, if you think far enough in advance.

I've done it many times. There are plenty of places you can get 20k + items. Need a little luck and patience. Think Mods. I've made over 300k in one evening selling mods from the stuff I received that day and everything I sold was bid on. I never stated a price once so whoever said ripping ppl off in Lions Arch should be careful. People will pay for an item if they want it. If they bid 100k for something, I didn't rip them off, they ripped themselves off.

Nerfing ticks me off... I stopped playing CoH because of it. I played it since it came out over a year ago... Same thing happened with Earth and Beyond... their servers went down because people wouldn't play it anymore...

Well, I think it would make it harder if the henchmen would have to buy armor for double the cost and would buy by themselves, the makers of Guild Wars definently wanted to make it hard so that it would encourage people to work together other than depending on henchmen. If someone wanted to do it alone, they shouldn't be able to choose what armor the henchie would wear, because it would be MUCH harder if the henchmen would buy their own armor depending on how much gold they get on your missions. And if you have more people in your party, then obviously everyone gets less gold, so it would still be extremely hard for the henchmen to get armor if they would buy armor depending on how much gold they get in a week or something. If they make alot, like later in the game, they would get better armor than in the beginning. So people would have to work hard for their henchmen to get good armor with in a certain time limit or something (like the week I said above) So then if you work with one henchmen, they would make more, but you might die also.... or something. But they really should add something about their armor. Naturally, warrior armor is stronger, so they would start with better armor from the start... but would have to get better armor by getting gold in order to be able to actually LIVE in the harder places. But it would still be hard to do that if you're with many henchmen in your party, since all the gold is split. Maybe they should also get items, though very rare for them to get an item, and not good items, no golds or purples. Then they could sell the item or use it depending on if their current weapon is better or worse. Or they could get gold from selling the item. Make it easier for them to get better, even if their item drops would be extremely rare, it would be easier for you to get a gold item than it would be for the henchmen to get any item. Well, I don't know, just an idea.

But one major thing that they should put in would be that the henchmen would resurect you even in the middle of battle, because they almost NEVER do that. Stupid A.I.

Also, about farming. If they want to get rid of all spots that you might get something worthwhile, then there would be almost no way to get gold from sharing it with other people in your party. Later when 100g bags drop, split that between 8 people you get around 11g per person. But if a bag with 16g in it, you'll only get 2g per person. That makes it impossible for you to get that 15k armor, and the enemies who drop 100g bags are usually to hard to beat by yourself, a warrior with healing powers like a w/mo or a w/r (like me) would be able to beat probably 3 of the hard enemies at a time. But thats without counting those stupid enemy mesmers and the enemies with skills that bring your health down quickly. You would only be able to stop them if you had a healer who wouldn't be attacked (which they are almost always targeted first) or for you to heal yourself, but thats very hard when they use a disrupt skill or just hit you plainly and disrupts your healing. Then the healing skill has to recharge and without having helped you at all and have wasted like 10 energy (the ranger ability Healing Spring) oh well, hopefully they will come to their senses and fix those problems instead adding even more much harder bosses that will also drop crap.

Well, I'm tired today so I cant really remember much of anything I just said up there
but if you can answer anything or also add on to it or something, I really cant think, so I know this all sounds weird, at least it feels weird as I'm writing this. Heh.
